History

Another idea from the Sun King! In 1667, Louis XIV has just taken possession of Lille, until then property of the Spanish. To ensure the security of this new conquest, he asked his personal engineer, Vauban, to imagine a citadel. This "brick star" is a real small town with its barracks, its shops... And even a mill! Well preserved despite the town's eventful history, the citadel is still a military place. Above all, it is a great idea for a walk just a stone's throw from the Deûle, the zoo and the Bois de Boulogne. Good news: you can visit it with the tourist office of Lille.
